Salary data on this page is based on 5 UI designer roles listed on UX Gigs between December 2025 and April 2026. Figures are calculated from advertised salary ranges — where a range is given, both the lower and upper bounds are included. Roles without an advertised salary are excluded. All figures are in GBP and represent gross annual salary before tax. Data is refreshed monthly.
Design systems architecture is the most valuable specialism for salary growth. Motion design, interaction prototyping, accessibility expertise and front-end CSS knowledge also command premiums. UI designers who can bridge the gap between design and engineering — building design tokens, documenting components and working with versioned libraries — are particularly well compensated.
It depends on your career goals and the market you want to work in. Specialist UI designers with deep design systems expertise are in high demand and well paid. However, the broader product designer role is more common in job listings and offers more career flexibility. If you enjoy visual craft and systematic design thinking, specialising in UI can be a strong career path. Compare product designer jobs to see how the roles differ.
